Hey everyone... Today is my last day in Ballyvaughan. Very bittersweet. I'm packing up all my things and will be home before I know it. Last night Kaitlin and I made it to Kilfenora one last time to set dance. It was so much fun I can't even tell you!!! I will never forget how the locals made us feel so welcome and how they even dedicated the last set to us. I have to get back to packing but I will see you all soon.

hey all... my time in the Burren is quickly coming to an end :) Today I walked to school in a torrential downpour...  something I won't miss. The exhibition is only a few days away, and today the studio floors got painted. Unfortunately I forgot to rescue my laptop out of the barn before the paint happened so it is being held hostage until tomorrow.

Tonight is the last night for set dancing. Katelyn and I have hired the local taxi man Tom Connelly to take us up to Kilfenora for the last time. Tear tear. My goal is to dance all of the sets tonight. To remind you all... each set is made up of 4-6 dances and usually there are 5 sets in all. It is absolutely brilliant. Last Sunday I took some more pictures of the dancing and I can't wait to show you all.

Hey all...

I'm making a conscious effort to blog more often as you can see. Today is a beautiful day in Ballyvaughan. The weather has been a little cold for the past few days so it is great to have the spring back. There are flowers sprouting up everywhere, and the sun is shining, and that always makes everyone a bit more happy. This week is still crazy with all the exhibition stuff. I'm planning on displaying a lampshade that I'm making out of eggshells. It will be pretty sweet. Also a few of my photographs and collages/cut things. I will make sure to document all of my work so you all can see. Only 17 more days.

Just got back from Paris with Mom... :) which was spectacular. I have some great pictures to show you all when I get back. Now it is getting down to the wire concerning all of my school projects. I'm working my butt off this week to try and get everything done and ready for the final exhibition which goes up next week! Not much new to report... just the same old same old.

So I haven't kept up with this as much as I would like because the internet here is kinda finicky!! But anyways it is now the middle of the 6th week here, and I have been bored a lot, but have also done some pretty cool things...

such as...

On Sunday a group of us went to watch horse races in the next town over... and I learned that I have another talent... picking out which horses will win. (haha more uselessness... unless i bet of course) I base my picks on 3 key components... how good the horse looks, name of the horse, and how hot the jockey is.

At one point two of my horses (Apache Country, and Forgotten Symphony) were battling for 1st place, but then on the last jump both of them fell... like 10 feet away from me. I would suggest to anyone who has nothing better to do to go watch horse racing... because it was pretty friggen sweet.

Thats all for now... more later

Hey all...

I'm currently in Galway (a city 1 hour north of Ballyvaughan) and staying my second night in a b&b. I had a rough start to the week by cutting my finger while chopping onions, but it ended nicely in a king size bed with m&m's and Shakespeare. It has been nice to escape the stillness of the burren for a while. One would think that the stillness of Ballyvaughan would help me gather my thoughts and reflect, but sometimes the best reflection is done over shopping and trashy chick flick. In other news I sent a few postcards out in the mail on friday so be looking for those in the coming week. Hope all is well in America.

Love,
K

Set Dancing

A bunch of us went set dancing last night which was AMAZING!!! I of course picked it up right away and even did a few sets with some of the locals. :) haha! There are 6 dances in a set and I guess one could compare it to a kind of do-si-do. RIGHT ON!!

Spooks

Hey all... Today is my first official day of classes and already I really like the photography department here. Martina is my teacher and she showed us some of her work and I thought I'd share it with you. Her Photography is based on the the haunted, so she explores Ireland for some of the most haunted castles and sites in Europe. Her idea is that the project isn't necessarily about proving anything, but exploring the traditions of the ghosts, ones that have been passed down through the generations. We're even going to take a class field trip and hopefully stay in one of the castles that is supposedly haunted...

SPOOOOOOOOOOKY :)

Sooooo it's been a while. Sorry folks, I haven't really had much access to the internet lately. A lot has happened since I arrived in Ireland. The first few days we spent kinda getting to know the area we are in and just settling from the Jetlag and culture shock. On monday we went on a Burren tour, and it was really fun and interesting. Everything here is "Medieval." The stone walls are fascinating, their designs directly related to the century they were made. The rest of the week I spent at the school and in my studio.
Yesterday we went on another tour, this time of connemara (a mountanous region in Ireland) but it was really long and very exhausting. Today we took a bus to Galway city and were finally able to have some time to ourselves. Thank God. Kay and I spent the day with our new friends Natalie and Emily and went shopping for some things that we either forgot or just wanted ;). Tonight we are staying at a Hostel in Galway and will spend another day here tomorrow. I'm out for some craic (fun)
Cheers :)
